Three weeks after our wedding, the photographer went to my in-laws’ house and knocked on the door.

My mother -in- law was the one home on that day you can imagine her excitement. May her soul rest in peace. She can guess she had been waiting for this moment🥰. When she opened the door, she saw him standing there. No camera bag. No album. Nothing in his hands.

Her excitement quickly turned into worry.

He said he had our wedding photos. Then he reached into his shirt pocket and brought out an envelope. Inside were just a few printed pictures. A handful. None of them captured the day properly. He blamed the poor results on lighting issues at the venue.

And then he left.

My mother-in-law called me straight away. I had already returned to the city for work, and so had my husband. As she explained what had happened, I broke down. The truth hit me hard. He had no real experience. He had been using a friend’s business name.

Thankfully, our friends stepped in. Their phone photos and personal shots became the memories we kept. Without them, we would have had almost nothing.

That experience stayed with me.

Planning a wedding is already a lot. Too many decisions. Too much trust placed in people you hope will deliver. That’s why, as a cake designer, I take what I do seriously. I make it my responsibility to remove stress, not add to it. To create cakes that are thoughtful, meaningful, and worthy of the love story they celebrate.

Please do your research. Read reviews. Ask for references. Listen to word of mouth. Your wedding day happens once. Protect your memories.

I learned a painful lesson. But it became my motivation.

Working on a new design for 2026 and honestly, this is my happy place.
Fresh dummy. Fresh stencil. Steady hands.

I had a tiny section left to finish, so the little kebab sticks were my guide. They help me avoid stencilling over the part that’s already perfect. It’s one of those small tricks that keeps the texture neat and even.

This video represents a series of thrilling firsts for me! 😊

It’s my first attempt at doing a voiceover (cue the nerves! 😂)
Moreover, it’s my debut experience editing a video with CapCut.
I also had to invest in a microphone since my previous post faced audio issues. Ah, the life of a baker and content creator, juggling multiple roles!

To be candid, after several unsuccessful tries, I nearly gave up. Technology isn’t my strongest area, but I pushed through! Hurray! 🎉

As for the cake, I’m absolutely pleased with how the design turned out. Now I’m considering—when I tackle pleats next time, should I try using an embosser for extra texture? I love a little bit of drama😂. Just some thoughts ! 👀
