Why I Do What I Do

From our first conversation to the final setup at your venue, my aim is to make the whole experience feel effortless and enjoyable.

My love for design has been shaped by a journey that has taken me from Nigeria to Italy and finally to the UK. With a background in fine art and textile design, I’ve always been drawn to beauty, craftsmanship and thoughtful detail.

Every wedding cake tells a story.

Long before the first slice is cut, it has already become part of the celebration. It will appear in photographs, bring loved ones together and become a memory that lasts long after the wedding day has passed.

Being trusted with such an important part of someone’s day is something I never take lightly.

People often ask how I found my way into wedding cakes. The truth is, it wasn’t a straight path. My journey has taken me from Nigeria to Italy and finally to the UK, with each chapter shaping not only who I am, but also the designer I’ve become.

Where It All Began

I was born and raised in Nigeria, where celebrations are at the heart of family life.

Some of my happiest memories are of weddings, birthdays and family gatherings filled with laughter, delicious food and the joy of bringing people together. Looking back, I realise those moments quietly shaped the way I see cake today.

To me, a cake has never been just dessert. It is part of the celebration. It becomes part of the memories people carry with them for years to come.

Although I didn’t know it then, that love of creating meaningful moments would stay with me wherever life took me.

A New Chapter in Italy

In my twenties, I moved to Italy, where I started my family and raised my children.

Living there introduced me to a culture that celebrates beauty in everyday life. I admired the craftsmanship, the appreciation for quality ingredients and the care that went into creating something beautiful, whether it was food, fashion or art.

Those years left a lasting impression on me.

Even now, my cakes are inspired by that same sense of understated elegance. I want every couple to feel that their cake has been thoughtfully designed, not simply made.

Rediscovering Creativity

As my children grew older and we later settled in the UK, I found myself returning to something I had always loved: creating.

With a background in fine art and textile design, I have always been drawn to texture, balance, colour and beautiful details. Cake became the perfect place for all of those passions to come together.

What began as baking for family and friends slowly turned into something much bigger.

In 2020, I started my first business, BakareBakes. Every order helped me grow, but I still felt I was searching for my own creative voice.

The Peony That Changed Everything

Then something happened that changed everything.

In 2022, I attended a series of cake classes where I was introduced to sugar flowers.

The very first flower I made was a peony.

I still remember sitting at my workbench, completely absorbed. Hours passed without me noticing. Every petal, every curve and every tiny detail drew me in.

In that moment, I realised I hadn’t simply discovered a new decorating technique.

I had rediscovered the artist within me.

From that day on, my approach to cake design changed. I no longer wanted to simply bake beautiful cakes. I wanted to create elegant centrepieces that felt timeless, personal and full of artistry.

As my work evolved, so did my vision.

The cakes I was creating felt more refined, more intentional and more like an expression of who I was as a designer. My style naturally developed into elegant, modern designs with handcrafted sugar flowers, soft textures and thoughtful details inspired by fashion, interiors and nature.

I realised my business had grown beyond its original name.

I wanted something that felt personal. A name that reflected both the designer I had become and the direction my business was taking.

That was when Juliet Cakes It was born.

Today, every wedding cake I create carries a little piece of that journey.

Why Weddings Mean So Much to Me

There is something incredibly special about weddings.

A wedding cake is one of the few details that brings everyone together. It becomes part of the photographs, the conversations, the laughter and the memories that couples and their families will treasure for years to come.

Knowing that something I’ve created becomes part of those moments is a privilege I never take lightly.

My hope is that every couple feels listened to, cared for and excited throughout the entire process. From our very first conversation to setting up your cake on your wedding day, I want the experience to feel calm, enjoyable and completely personal.

Thank you for taking the time to read my story.

I would be honoured to create a wedding cake that becomes part of yours.
